Crooked House, new film, right to DVD

Does anyone know why this went right to DVD and did not get a cinema screening?. I was looking forward to seeing it in late December/early January but it never came. I just ordered the dvd which was released on Tuesday, Jan 16th, in the USA. With Glen Close in the lead it seems strange that it wasn't given a cinema screening.
