Who found the General, and why we should care

Baltimore USS
Spoilet warning!!
In the book Armstrong finds the General - in the BBC version it is Ms. Brent.
This seems an error to me - in the book it pretty much seals Vera's prime suspect as the Doctor... she convinces Lombard of this by pointing out he had the chance to commit the murder as he ran to find him then lie about his time if death.
By losing this point in the tv version it might be that Lombard would need more convincing.
Just a tiny point I know but that insight if Vera's in the original was always a very significant indication of her own tenacity and logical thinking in an extreme situation, and I was saddened it was not transposed faithfully in the remake.
