The Big Four

can anyone tell me who is the murderer in The Big Four?  I found this story extremely confusing when reading it and although I have also seem the filmed version with David Suchet, it bears little resemblance to the actual story. Also, if anyone can enlighten me as to who was the murderer/murderess of the original crime in Postern of Fate (not the later crime investigated by T&T) I would be grateful to learn that also.     The Big Four are: No 1 Li Chang Yen, the Chinese leader of the group and never leaves China; No 2 Abe Ryland, an American Soap King; No 3 Madam Olivier, a French Scientist; No 4 Claude Darrel, an obscure English Actor, also known as The Destroyer, as he is responsible for most of the assignations and killings: he kills Mayerling (Secret Service Agent), Mr Jonathan Whalley (a fisherman), Mr Paynter, Mr Gilmour Wilson (chess Grand Master).
