Is there anyone here conversant with British police organization? I am a budding mystery writer who wants to set his stories in the England of the 1930s. I need all the help I can get!

    Anthony Martienssen's non-fiction "Crime and the Police" isn't bad, and contains a section on the heirarchy of the force - but it's from the 50s rather than the 30s.  You could probably find a cheap copy as it's not difficult to come across one of the Penguin Green editions.  I've no idea how much the force changed from before WWII to afterwards.
