I don't think it has. A fellow forum participant posted an 'is it time for a new book of the month' reminder, but there seems not to have been one. If there has not been one, it feels a bit like being on the island in And ThenThere Were None, waiting for our host to act, unsure of how to organise ourselves around a theme, wondering what is the reason for the silence.
Check out the synopsis of certain titles on the AC website to see if you would like to read it. Or read the titles AC herself found to be her best work. Hope this helps a bit.
@Griselda and @shana , I enjoy the Elizabeth Peters ''Amelia Peabody' series of novels. They are set in Egypt and she us an archaeologist. They are very lighthearted and enjoyable. Also Kerry Greenwood!s 'Phryne Fisher' series is great as well. If you read some, I hope you enjoy them.
Yes, @3rdGirl I went on and googled Peters up and read about her work. I have heard of the Amanda Peabody Series before. Do you think AC might have glanced at her work or the other way around? Under her own name Peters has written 2 books on ancient Egypt that are still in print. Impressive! I'll try to get my hand on some of her Peabody novels though. Thx, for "the direction".
I am sorry if you found my Comment Rude but I was told on a Course that you should never use the words All, None, Always and never because it is insulting and Offensive to the Minority, I personally agree and I think it is, I didn't mean to offend you, I admit SOME people find ideas helpful and need direction but I am sure SOME like me don't, by using the word "WE" I felt you were including me which I was offeded and Insulted by, It is like saying everybody hates an Actress's portrayal of Miss Marple but in reality at lesast one person likes the Portrayal of any of the Actress's who have played Miss Marple.
Since Giant's Bread (April's Book of the month), I think there's a gap of two months between one book and other. At least, it's my personal impression, but I may be wrong.
And "we" is NOT one of the words you were taught NOT to use in that course. So there is nothing wrong with 3rdGirl's comment.
Since you're that sure you don't need direction about what to read next Tommy, it should have been clear to you that 3rdGirl's reaction was not directed at the minorty you think you belong to.
By the way, what IS so offending about needing direction?!?
I am glad of every opportunity through which I'am pointed into the direction of new knowledge. One can always learn something new about any subject, even if one thinks they know it all (arrogance). F.e. I have come to know about the work of another mystery writer through this thread, even though I also know for myself what AC-title I would like to read next.
Shana I admit that perhaps if it was a private conversation I maybe shouldn't have stepped in but this is a public forum so I felt entitled to, Secondly, when I was told that I shouldn't use those words, were you There? If you were you remember things wrongly but it is a very outside chance that you were in the room isn't it?
I didn't mean to sound as if I was offended by needing direction just that fact that "we" in that context included me which is what I took umbridge at by the way you are stepping into a conversation which is exactly what you accused me of doing.
@Tommy_A_Jones, please read carfully: I never accused you of stepping into a conversation. Everybody can join in, that's the way this forum works. I just think your initial reaction to 3rdGirl was off topic and rude. And I tried to prove it by analyzing your own "apology" later in the thread. You"re the one bringing up the "we" word. And again it"s YOU who told us about the course and what you were taught so I was just going by your own information. Don't be unnecessarily sarcastic by asking if I was in the room.
I have also noticed your comments often lead to these kind of discussions on this forum.
You still haven"t been able to make any valid point about why you reacted the way you did. That's all I will say.
Hi 3rd Girl, thank you for the recommendations! How lovely to have so much pleasure to look forward to. I am sure the novels will be good if Agatha Christie fans like them!
I liked the Amelia Peabody Series by Elizabeth Peters, but after a few books the series seemed to get over-heavy and detailed, for me it was too difficult to read them. However, I did like - and still do - the "Modern" series she wrote around the librarian detective Jacqueline Kirby, especially the first and last (fourth): The Seventh Sinner and Naked Once More (the book is NOT about nudity or pornography!). Also the books she wrote under the name Barbara Michaels. These are suspense-romances (Somewhat in the Genre of Mary Stewart's earlier books), with well-balanced themes of romance, mystery and paranormal phenomena.
Shana You pointed out that 3rd Girl was in a Conversation with Griselda which to me sounded as if you were saying I should not have entered the conversation, which I had every right to do, I only used the word "we" because someone else used it first., I suppose the answer is that I should not all conversations are collective and perhaps people shouldn't come to other People's defence.
You might need a bit of Direction but I don't so please don't use the word "We" as you are factually inaccurate.
If you re read your comment Tommy, you are indeed very condescending and rude. You then tried to 'apologise' by blaming myself for 'insulting' you in my very innocent comment to Griselda. Then in further comments you are pompous, overbearing and quite impolite to others on this thread.
I have stopped commenting on these forums in recent times because I just can't be bothered engaging with someone like you.
This is supposed to be a fun forum for AC fans to share their love and insights, you have taken the fun out of it.
Well @3rdGirl I'm relieved after reading your clarification at last after NEARLY 3 MONTHS. As I did wonder why there was no reaction from either you or @Griselda. Just keep the positive and discard the negative. Welcome Back!!
