This is difficult! I change my mind a lot and some of them seem equal and the ones I love the most aren't necessarily the best books...

    The Secret Adversary

    Why Didn't They Ask Evans?

    And Then There Were None

    The ABC Murders

    Murder on the Orient Express

    The Mysterious Affair at Styles

    Five Little Pigs

    A Murder is Announced

    The Body in the Library

    N or M?

  • Tommy_A_JonesTommy_A_Jones Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
I have come to the Conclusion I can't have a Top 10, I think The nearest I can get is 16 with 7 Poirots;   ABC Murders,
    Cards On The Table,
    The Clocks,
    Mrs McGinty's Dead,
    Cat Among The Pigeons,
    Death On The Nile
    Evil Under The Sun,

    3 Miss Marple's;
    A Murder Is Announced,
    4.50 From Paddington
    Sleeping Murder,

    One T&T;
     N or M,

    Three 3 Batle's;
    The Secret of Chimneys,
    7 Dials
    Towards Zero

    The Sittaford Mystery,
    Why Didn't They Ask Evans
The Man In  The Brown Suit.
  • tudestudes Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Excellent idea! It's so difficult to pick ten!
  • Tommy_A_JonesTommy_A_Jones Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
Very difficult and I probably missed some which I think are as good as the ones I listed but going by an idea I saw on a program where people got rid of things with the help of a Therapist (I Think) These must be the ones I would pack if going to a Desert Island

  • tudestudes Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Following your tip, Tommy-A-Jones, if I went to a desert Island , I would pack:
For me, it's a hard work to pick 7 Poirot, but I would say: Evil under the sun; ABC murders, Cards on the table, the murder of Roger Acrokyd, Murder on the Orient Express; Lord Edgware Dies and The Mysterious Affair at Styles.
Miss Marple: A Murder in Announced, The Moving Finger, The Murder st the Vicarage and 4.50 From Paddington (I also love the game). I pick four.
Just like you, the three Battle: Towards Zero, Seven Dials Mystery and Chimneys.
Non-series: And Then there were none; The man in the brown suit; Why they didn't ask Evans and Crooked House (I also pick four).
    T&T: N or M? And Secret Adversary.
  • I worked to come up with ten so here goes:

    1. Sleeping Murder

    2. And Then There Were None

    3. Cat Among the Pigeons

    4. The Pale Horse

    5. The Moving Finger

    6. A Murder is Announced

    7. Appointment With Death

    8. N or M

    9. Murder is Easy

    10. Crooked House.

  • Tommy_A_JonesTommy_A_Jones Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
I knew I had missed out at least one, I would take The Man In The Brown Suit aswell as ATTWN, It would seem appropriate taking it and Evil Under The Sun but I wouldn't take ATTWN with me if I went to a Country House, If I was going to one I would take the Battles and WDTAE for sure.
  • tudestudes Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
I don't know if I would change if I were to a country house, although Evil under the sun and ATTWN are more appropriate to an island. On the other hand, I think ATTWN is a bit gloomy (I don't why, but I associate gloomy to country house).
Battle's novels are perfect to a country house as WTDAE.
  • Tommy_A_JonesTommy_A_Jones Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
    I agree Tudes
  • CiaranVeidtCiaranVeidt Pine Cliffs West, Portugal
Very late in getting here, I know (unless I posted and forgot but since I can't find myself in this thread I think not) but as I had already had a top 10 (more or less) in my head I thought "why not?" so here goes:

     1. Death Comes As The End

     2. And Then There Were None

     3. Crooked House

     4. Ordeal By Innocence

     5. A Murder is Announced

     6. Murder In Mesopotamia

     7. Mrs. McGinty's Dead

     8. Towards Zero

     9. The Pale Horse

    10. Cat Among the Pigeons

  • As it is at the moment, and might change subject to re-reads, mine is:

    Murder at the Vicarage
    The Moving Finger
    Evil Under the Sun
    Death on the Nile
    The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
    Hercule Poirot's Christmas
    Three Act Tragedy
    A Murder is Announced
    A Pocket Full of Rye
    The 4.15 From Paddington

I'm not really going for the best novels in that order, but novels with some sympathetic characters who I can enjoy spending time with. These novels are ones which I can lose myself in. I think the novels which I think are the greatest are The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Death on the Nile, Murder on the Orient Express. I don't read And Then There Were none because it has a malevolent atmosphere, but I agree that it is a masterpiece.

  • Tommy_A_JonesTommy_A_Jones Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
I congratulate you both on being able to do this, I never can.
  • Tommy_A_JonesTommy_A_Jones Gloucestershire, United Kingdom

If I can do this I always have 2 (Both MMs and 7 Dials) which are bubbling under.
  • @tommy_a_jones - what do you mean by MMs?
  • Tommy_A_JonesTommy_A_Jones Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
    Miss Marple Novels.
  • Which two?
  • Tommy_A_JonesTommy_A_Jones Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
A Murder Is Announced, 4.50 From Paddington and Sleeping Murder are in my Top 10 and Murder At The Vicarage and Body In The Library are 2 MMs that Bubble under.
  • And there were none/Murder on Orient Express/The Sittaford Mystery/The unexpected guest/Towards Zero/Sad Cypress/4.50 from Paddington/The man in the brown suit/Cards on the table/Dumb witness
  • purplebekir88purplebekir88 United States of America
